Direct Part Marking

Tracing products from the very start of the manufacturing process has become more and more important to allow quality controls and follow ups.

Industrial marking techniques are also used to improve product image and recognition by end users.

Several different methods can be used for identifying products :

  • Laser marking
  • Electrolysis
  • Engraving that cuts away or shaves out shapes in the part

Each of these techniques has their own advantages and drawbacks and should be adapted to the job in hand.

What is MICRO-PERCUSSION MARKING ?

Micro-percussion marking does not remove any  of the base metal from the part being marked.
A carbide stylus impacts the part at very high frequency - for example the RapidMark®   tool stylus moves at about 300 Hz - and creates a series of dots that are either spaced apart to mark  separate dots or close together to mark complete lines,  shapes or logos etc.

Because no matter is removed the surface of the part being marked is simply very slightly indented  to create the making . this is important as in that way no stress is created as the part is not weakened by removal of  any  of the metal from the part being marked.

Mainly used for marking metal , micro-percussion techniques can nonetheless be used for marking any material that will accept  surface  distortion .

The carbide stylus wears very well  and only rarely needs sharpening as  no pressure is applied  on the point of the stylus, nor does it turn on itself like an engraving tool.

InterACT France provides the following micropercussion marking solutions:

1 . Rapidmark –  InterACT France now supplies  the first ever micro-percussion marking tool that can be used during the milling process in CNC milling machines. – a truly revolutionary means of saving time and money during the manufacturing process.
